The Seed: A Civilization in Your Pocket

The Marscoin Seed is a bootable disk image containing the complete Martian Republic infrastructure: blockchain, governance, identity, wallets, IPFS, and documentation. Download it. Flash it. Boot a new world.

What If You Could Carry an Entire Civilization’s Infrastructure in Your Pocket?

The Marscoin Foundation maintains a regularly updated bootable disk image containing all software, blockchain data, and tools needed to operate the Martian Republic. It represents a complete, functioning node supporting humanity’s first blockchain democracy.

This is The Seed.

What’s Inside: Everything

The Seed image contains five core components — everything a Mars settlement needs to run its financial and governance infrastructure from the moment it powers on:

1. Marscoin Core

Full blockchain node with source code, compiled binaries, and complete chain history from January 1, 2014. Twelve years of uninterrupted transaction records, governance votes, and logbook entries — all cryptographically verified and ready to serve.

2. IPFS Daemon

A preconfigured InterPlanetary File System node with bootstrap peers. Enables pinning, serving, and retrieving citizen data without dependency on Earth-based internet infrastructure. On Mars, where the round-trip signal delay ranges from 8 to 48 minutes, local IPFS nodes are not a convenience — they are a necessity.

3. Martian Republic

The complete governance application: wallet, citizen registry, congress, community forum, resource inventory, research logbook, and planetary registry. Every module the Republic needs to function as a self-governing entity.

4. Wallet Software

Electrum-Mars desktop wallet, CLI tools, and the full HD wallet stack for key generation, transaction signing, and address management. Settlers can create wallets, send MARS, and participate in governance within minutes of booting the Seed.

5. Documentation

The Citizen Handbook: setup guides, governance rules, emergency procedures, and complete technical reference. Everything a new citizen needs to understand and operate the system — even without prior blockchain experience.

The Bootstrapping Problem

When settlers arrive on Mars, they will not have time to download an entire blockchain, configure IPFS, install a governance platform, and set up wallet software from scratch. The communication delay with Earth makes downloading anything time-critical impractical. Power is limited. Bandwidth is precious. Every minute spent on infrastructure setup is a minute not spent on survival.

The Seed solves the cold-start problem. Governance becomes immediate survival infrastructure.

One seed begins the network. Subsequent seeds create redundancy. By the tenth seed, civilization operates at full resilience.

The Vision

Someone boarding a Starship will carry this in their pocket.

Not physical servers — a seed. A USB drive containing everything a civilization requires: governance, transactions, data storage, identity verification, secret-ballot voting, and immutable historical records.

How It Works

Step 1: Download

Acquire the latest .img file from the Marscoin Foundation. The image is regularly updated with the latest blockchain data, software patches, and documentation.

Step 2: Flash

Write the image to a USB 3.0+ drive using Etcher, dd, or Rufus. A minimum of 64GB is recommended. Industrial-grade drives are advised for environments where hardware must withstand extreme conditions.

Step 3: Boot

Insert into any x86_64 machine and boot from USB. The Marscoin node initiates syncing, IPFS initializes, and the Martian Republic goes live. A complete governance infrastructure, operational in minutes.
